Everyone deserves to feel safe in their local neighbourhood. Yet many in our communities across Cardiff East raise persistent issues with shop lifting and anti-social behaviour. This has a negative impact on residents, but it also has huge impacts for small businesses and footfall on our local high streets.
The UK Labour Government has already invested an extra £17.2 million for South Wales Police, following a record £25.2 million increase in 2025, but we know we need to go further. That’s why we are introducing Respect Orders.
These measures will give courts new powers to restrict the behaviour of adults repeatedly causing antisocial behaviour. That could mean banning public drinking on a particular high street, helping protect residents and reclaim public spaces.
Respect Orders will also require people to take positive steps to change their behaviour and address its root causes, including through drug or alcohol treatment. This ensures we are tackling crime and the root causes of crime.
This is about delivering on our commitment to safer streets and stronger communities while ensuring residents feel proud of and safe in the places they call home.
