I am aware of the concern among parents, students, staff and our wider community following the closure of Eastern High School again today.

The decision to close the school for a second day was taken by South Wales Police, alongside Cardiff Council, as a precautionary measure following a report received via the police’s online chat function late Sunday evening.

I want to reassure constituents that I have been in close contact with South Wales Police as they carry out their investigation into this report.

As these enquiries continue, you may notice an increased police presence in the area. Please be assured that this is standard procedure while enquiries continue, and that it is intended to provide visible reassurance to our community.

While I understand that today’s school closure will have caused some disruption, the safety of our schoolchildren, staff, and wider community must always come first.
