The UK Labour government has secured a major trade deal with India that will bring over £1 billion in new investment to the UK and create 6,800 jobs across the country. Nearly 200 of those jobs will be right here in Wales, with investment going into key growing sectors such as advanced manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and health-tech.
This deal is a clear demonstration of this Labour government’s commitment to rebuilding our economy through serious leadership. It reflects our determination to deliver for working people in every region and nation of the UK, including here in Wales.
We have a clear plan to grow the economy, and this landmark deal demonstrates just that. India is the fastest growing economy in the world.
Through this landmark deal, Indian companies are investing in Welsh communities and backing Welsh talent like never before. For example:
- Wockhardt, a leading pharmaceutical firm, is investing £8 million to upgrade its Wrexham facility, creating 35 high-skilled jobs.
- NeoCeltic Global Ltd is investing £5 million in Cardiff to deliver next-generation mobility and rehabilitation technologies, creating 50 jobs.
- EdSupreme, an AI-driven Ed-Tech company, is investing £10 million across London and Wales, with 50 jobs coming to Wales over three years.
- NMT Engineering and Services will create 15 skilled jobs in Wales through a £5 million investment in precision components for renewable energy, defence, and aerospace.
These investments are a clear vote of confidence in the Welsh economy. They show that Wales is not only open for business but is increasingly recognised as one of the best places in the world to invest.
This trade deal also opens new doors for Welsh exporters. Businesses in sectors like renewable energy, creative industries, and food and drink will benefit from improved access to India’s procurement market, with much clearer opportunities to export. This is another clear example of how this UK
Labour Government is creating jobs, delivering financial stability and putting more money in the pockets of working people.
This is what a Labour Government delivers: serious leadership on the global stage, global ambition, and a clear plan to rebuild the UK economy.
