The defence of the UK starts in Ukraine. Putin’s imperialism has violated European security, attempted to tear up the UN charter and run roughshod over international law.
The UK and our international partners stand united. We cannot let Putin’s aggression succeed.
The UK’s military, financial, diplomatic and political support for Ukraine is iron-clad. We will deliver £3 billion of military aid to Ukraine every year for as long as needed.
The UK alongside our international partners have introduced the largest and most severe package of sanctions ever imposed on Russia. Without them, Russia would have over $400 billion more – enough to fund this illegal war for a further four years.
In September on a visit to Kyiv, the Foreign Secretary announced at least £600 million worth of support to Ukraine against Putin’s illegal invasion. This will support the most vulnerable in Ukraine and bolster Ukraine’s economic stability as well as longer-term reconstruction and energy needs.
In October, the Government announced that we will provide £2.26bn ($3bn) to Ukraine as part of the G7 Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration (ERA) Loans to Ukraine scheme.
This G7 scheme will provide Ukraine with approximately $50bn in vital, additional support. This substantial package will be repaid using the extraordinary profits made from holdings of immobilised Russian sovereign.
We continue to work with our allies to pursue all lawful means by which Russia is made to pay for the damage it is causing Ukraine.
We must continue to stand with Ukraine, confront Russian aggression and pursue Putin for his war crimes.
