This UK Labour Government is working in partnership with our Welsh Labour Government colleagues to secure the largest investment in North Wales for a generation.
Today, I had the pleasure of joining Ken Skates, the Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales, alongside the Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy, and Planning, as well as Business and Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds, in Shotton to announce a £1 billion investment in the Shotton paper mill.
This major joint-investment between the UK and Welsh Governments will help to secure 147 jobs and create another 220. This will make Shotton the UK’s largest recycled paper manufacturer, helping us on our way to net zero and boosting the local economy.
This is personal for me.
I grew up near Shotton and saw the challenges it faced.
I was delighted to help make this investment happen. Together, we have reset the relationship between Westminster and Wales. After 14 years of Tory failure, Labour is getting on with the job, investing in North Wales and creating goof jobs close to home.
This is what happens when you have two Labour Governments working hand in hand.
