Public sector workers are the backbone of our nation. They kept us safe during the COVID-19 pandemic and have endured over a decade of austerity and cuts to public services under 14 years of Tory misrule. Now, it’s time for a fresh start.

Labour is committed to ensuring our public sector workers are fairly rewarded for the vital work they do. In partnership with the Welsh Labour Government, we are delivering a fair pay award that reflects how much we value and respect their contribution to Wales.

As part of this commitment, public sector workers in Wales, including NHS staff and teachers, will receive pay increases ranging from 5% to 6% in 2024-25. This follows the Welsh Government’s decision to fully accept the pay recommendations from independent review bodies:

  • Teachers will receive a 5.5% pay rise.
  • NHS staff under the Agenda for Change terms will see a 5.5% increase.
  • Doctors, dentists, and GPs will be granted a 6% pay rise, along with an additional £1,000 for junior doctors.
  • Civil servants and staff in public bodies like Natural Resources Wales and the Development Bank of Wales will benefit from a pay rise averaging 5%.

Labour will continue to work with trade unions to agree fair pay settlements, recognising the huge contributions of public sector workers, while ensuring affordability for the taxpayer.
