At the moment we have too many people, especially in the more remote areas, of Wales who can’t properly access the internet. Within weeks of taking office, Labour has already taken the steps to begin providing faster broadband to tens of thousands of people across Wales.
Around £170 million in UK Government investment will be made available to deliver top-of-the-range ‘gigabit-capable’ broadband for around 70,000 hard-to-reach households and business from the South Wales Valleys to the Llyn Peninsular.
This is the first UK Government contract under Project Gigabit to boost connectivity in Wales after years of dither and delay by the last UK Tory Government.
It is hoped that the new investment will help meet the growing demand for reliable connectivity, stimulate our rural economy and reduce regional disparities, by enabling remote working and attracting new businesses.
