The news that hundreds of Wilko stores are at risk of closure, including two in Cardiff Central is deeply concerning.

Their loss will have a massive impact on our local high streets and my thoughts are with all those Wilko staff and their families facing this dreadful news.

Labour has a plan for our high streets. We will tackle the things holding firms back by reforming business rates, cracking down on anti-social behaviour and putting an end to empty premises to bring shoppers back to their high street.

Today, I’ve called on the Business Secretary to back our plan for high streets and provide much needed support to affected workers.
