If you’re running a group or organisation making a difference in Cardiff Central, you could be eligible for funding from the National Lottery Community fund.

The NLC is open to all applications that meet their criteria, including support during COVID-19.

They also working closely with WCVA and other funders to ensure we are forming the best support for Welsh communities.

They therefore welcome applications that meet their revised priorities.

  • supporting communities adversely affected by COVID-19
  • supporting communities and organisations to become more resilient to help them to respond better to future crises.

National Lottery Awards for All

£300–£10,000

  • For grassroots and community activity that aims to improve life for local people and neighbourhoods.
  • There’s no deadline, so you can apply at any time.
  • This is the most popular grants programme, so the Lottery Fund prioritise groups with smaller incomes.
  • Applying for this grant is quick and simple.

People and Places: Medium grants

£10,001–£100,000

  • Grants for voluntary or community groups.
  • Will fund revenue or capital expenditure lasting up to five years.
  • The most important thing is that you tell the Lottery about your community and how the project will make positive changes on the lives of people within it.
  • This is a one stage application process.

£100,001–£500,000

  • Grants for voluntary or community groups.
  • Will fund revenue or capital expenditure lasting up to five years.
  • The most important thing is that you tell the Lottery Fund about your community and how the project will make positive changes on the lives of people within it.
  • This is a two stage application process.

Recent examples of Cardiff Central organisations successfully receiving Lottery funding include:

Tros Gynnal Plant were awarded £498,920 and will use the grant to support young refugee and asylum seekers aged 14-25 living in Cardiff and surrounding areas. They will provide weekly drop-in service during school term times – a place for socialising, information, support and activities. They will organise four holiday workshops and activities across four dispersal areas to encourage connection with young people. They will also provide mentoring and advocacy, and develop new/existing relationships with individuals, organisations and services to benefit the community.

 

Women’s Equality Network (WEN) Wales received £425,995 to work with Ethnic Minorities and Youth Support Team Wales (EYST), Disability Wales and Stonewall Cymru to deliver a mentoring programme for people with protected characteristics. This grant over three years will fund four part-time Project Officers, project delivery costs and overheads.

 

Al-Ikhlas Culture and Education Centre will provide food parcels, prescription delivery and help with shopping for older people or families experiencing financial difficulties. £10,000 will fund a foodbank coordinator, food, transport and volunteer expenses.

 

Cardiff Kurdish Community Association will provide after school education for children and support BAME women to learn English and better engage with health services. £10,000 will fund rent, books, printing, tablets and teacher’s salaries.

 

Sub-Sahara Advisory Panel received a £10,000 grant to deliver culturally appropriate food parcels to people from the African Diaspora living in Cardiff, who are isolated or in financial difficulty due to COVID-19.

 

Hope Trust Cardiff Charitable Incorporated Association were also successful and will use their £10,000 grant to establish a volunteer-led food coop and cookery classes for people experiencing food poverty or economic difficulties.
