Splott Road Bridge Update – 11 Jan 2018

February 2018 represents a major milestone towards the electrification of the railway to Cardiff. Work on Splott Road Bridge enters a critical phase and preparations for the new overhead line equipment continue.

Road closure

As part of the work to reconstruct Splott Road Bridge, a full road closure between 4 February and 27 February will be needed.

Pedestrian Access

Pedestrian access over the bridge will be restricted at the following times:

7am on 12 February – 5pm on 12 February
7am on 13 February – 5pm on 13 February
7am on 14 February – 00.01am on 16 February
11pm on 16 February – 4am on 19 February

10pm on 24 February – 5am on 26 February

Demolition work will take place between 17 February and 19 February.

Drop-in events

Following the success of the ‘street surgery’ held on Clifton Street last year, Network Rail will be hosting a similar event on the 17 January, between 3pm and 6pm.

Network Rail are also holding a drop-in event at the Carlisle Bakery on Splott Road, between 3pm and 6pm on 24 January.

Piling activity

Network Rail will be utilising full and partial closures of the railway between Cardiff and Newport to deliver a significant amount of piling activity on the railway through Splott and Adamsdown in the coming months.

Network Rail will continue their targeted approach to lineside neighbours, discussed previously, wherever possible, ensuring that local residents have at least two weeks’ notice of noisy piling activity in the vicinity of their homes.

Experts from the Network Rail piling team will also be on hand at the Splott Road drop-in on the 24th February to answer questions from local residents.
