Processions March

I joined thousands of women and girls from across Cardiff and beyond this weekend to take part in a ‘living artwork’ marking 100 years since some women won the right to vote.

The Processions march was created by Artichoke and saw thousands of women marching through the streets of Cardiff wearing either purple, green or white scarves (the suffragettes’ campaign colours) to create a sea of colour when viewed from above.

At the same time, marches also took place in Edinburgh, Belfast and London.

It was an honour to be part of an explosion of colour, joy, celebration and passionate women.

Along the way I marched alongside friends and colleagues, and met women and girls young and old who had made a huge effort – and designed some spectacular banners – for the event.

I made a placard to carry, thanking the sisters before me who fought for my right to be the 426th woman MP ever elected to Parliament. It’s an honour I don’t take lightly.

The whole day was moving and inspiration and I’m thrilled that Cardiff turned out in such numbers to be a part of it!
