Shoebox Appeal for Women’s Refuges – 16 Nov 2017
The festive season can be a very difficult time for people in uncertain circumstances.
For the last two years I’ve taken part in a collection of shoebox donations for women and children in refuges and shelters. It’s not where anyone wants to be over Christmas, and many families arrive there having had to leave their possessions behind.
This year Cardiff Central resident Jess Martyn is co-ordinating the appeal, and I’m offering my office once again as a collection point for donations which will be distributed to organisations in the south Wales area including Cardiff Women’s Aid, Bawso and Hafan Cymru.
If you would like to donate any shoeboxes or loose items, please drop them in to my office:
116 Albany Road, CF24 3RU
9.30am – 5pm
Monday – Friday
The last day for donations is Friday 15th December
What can I donate?
Toiletries, cosmetics and makeup which are new or unused
Items for babies and children
Gloves, scarves, socks (women’s or children’s)
Here are some ideas:
- Shower gel
- Face wipes
- Sanitary products
- Body/face creams
- Body scrub
- Make up
- Nail polish/remover/files
- Cotton wool
- Colouring books/pens/small toys
- Nappies/baby wipes
You can either prepare your own shoebox (and wrap or decorate it) or drop in loose items which will be put together into boxes by local organisers. If you do put a shoebox together please make sure the lid can be removed.
There are a number of other locations in Cardiff and South Wales accepting donations, including Cathays Community Centre and Little Man Coffee in the city centre. For more details have a look at the appeal’s Facebook event.
