Forthcoming Clean Growth Plan – 13 April 2017

Along with 51 of my cross-party colleagues, I have written to Greg Clark MP, Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy regarding the Government’s forthcoming Clean Growth Plan.

The Clean Growth Plan is an opportunity to set out long-term strategies and detailed policies that will attract increased and affordable private sector investment in the low carbon economy. A strong cross-economy plan, showing how all sectors will play their part, will allow UK businesses to build on their lead in low carbon innovation in areas such as electric vehicles, construction, smart ICT solutions and legal and financial services.

We believe the Clean Growth Plan should also be a strategy to unlock many additional benefits. Clearer air thanks to cleaner power production and vehicles, improved health and reduced NHS costs thanks to warmer, better insulated and efficiently heated homes, and economic renewal by providing new infrastructure opportunities in communities across the country. It will help save future generations from facing the costly burden of climate change and provide a safer, more prosperous future for us all.

Re: Forthcoming Clean Growth Plan

Dear Secretary of State,

We are pleased to see your commitment to publishing plans to reduce our carbon emissions, the Clean Growth Plan, following the passing of the fifth carbon budget last summer. The UK will need a strong delivery plan to ensure that climate change targets are met, and to harness the many economic and social benefits that a low carbon economy will bring.

We believe that the Clean Growth Plan is a key opportunity to set out long-term strategies and detailed policies that will attract increased and affordable private sector investment in the low carbon economy. A strong cross-economy plan, showing how all sectors will play their part, will allow UK businesses to build on their lead in low carbon innovation in areas such as electric vehicles, construction, smart ICT solutions and legal and financial services.

The Clean Growth Plan should also be a strategy to unlock many additional benefits.

We look forward to the publication of the plan, and working with the Government as you move to the delivery stage.
