Splott Road Bridge Closure Meeting – 3 July 2017

On Friday I met with the Programme Manager for Network Rail’s electrification programme for the main line between London and Cardiff.

The electrification programme will lead to improvements of the track and service between London and Cardiff but does mean that during the adaptation there will be some disruption, particularly due to bridge closures between Adamsdown and Splott.

Closures of the Windsor Road and Beresford Road bridges have now been completed and the forthcoming closure of Splott Road bridge in August is currently being prepared.

During the meeting I took the opportunity to find out when and how the works will be taking place and how they may affect local residents and businesses.

I was pleased that Network Rail and their construction partner Carillion have made efforts to be considerate in setting up their site office. The portacabin windows face away from residential properties, flowers are being planted around the site area and staff from the crew are being seconded to work with Cardiff Council’s traffic management team. This will mean the team can more easily monitor traffic patterns around the road closure and change traffic lights and other systems accordingly.

Local residents and businesses are being contacted about the closure, and I’m working with Network Rail to make sure that clear information is circulated widely to residents and businesses who may be affected.

I have also made it clear to the programme managers that it is important that people know Clifton Street is open for business during the works. This should include clear signage, advance warning and information about how to get to Clifton Street around the road closures.

I’ve shared the information so far on this website and I’ll continue to do so.

If you have any specific questions, please get in touch with my office (using the contact details here) and we’ll do our best to help.
