Justice Questions: Impact of Britain leaving the European Union and the European Arrest Warrant. – 8 March 2016

Today I took the opportunity to ask the Justice Minister Dominic Raab what impact leaving the EU would have on the UK’s ability to protect victims of crime and as a result, the scope of the European Arrest Warrant.

The European Arrest Warrant is an arrest warrant valid throughout all member states of the European Union. Once issued, it requires another member state to arrest and transfer a criminal suspect or sentenced person to the issuing state so that the person can be put on trial or complete a detention period.

I wanted to know if the Minister had thought about the implication leaving the European Union had on victims of crime. His answer? Muddled, unclear and failed to answer my question.
