Cardiff is a thriving cultural city but it’s never had its own literature festival. 

That’s why a group of writers have decided to create the Cardiff Book Festival. The festival was launched this morning in Cardiff Central, and its first edition will take place this October across Cardiff. 

Several high-profile authors have already confirmed they will be taking part, including Rachel Trezise and the National Poet of Wales Ifor ap Glyn, and the festival has the support of people in public life including Lleucu Siencyn, Chief Executive of Literature Wales and BBC presenter Huw Edwards. 

I’m thrilled that Cardiff will get its very own book festival. It looks like the programme will be a great variety of discussion and debate from writers and publishers, with plenty of literature to get into. 

The programme will be announced nearer the time, but for now the team are Crowdfunding on Indiegogo, so if you’d like to say you played your part, visit the crowdfunding page here. 

The founding team are Cerith Mathias, a journalist and writer, Anna Day, publisher and project manager, and Brian Meechan, a broadcaster and journalist.
