Jo Stevens

A strong voice for Cardiff Central

News

Chris_Profile.jpgThere are many reasons I'm campaigning for Jo!

First, if Jo wins here in Cardiff Central, it can help change the government in Westminster. A Labour government would stand up for ordinary people, not just the richest few, and a Labour win here would help get the Tories out. In the Welsh Assembly elections in 2011, Labour's Jenny Rathbone won by just 38 votes - campaigning here really will make a difference.

Guto_Doorstep.jpgOn May 7th, the future of the UK hangs in the balance. We have an opportunity to decide what type of Britain we want to live in. We’ve got a choice between a country that is weaker and less equal as we’ve come to live in under the current Tory/Lib Dem coalition Government, or a country which rewards hard work with fair pay, a country which gives future generations more opportunities than the last and a country which delivers an economic recovery for everyone, not just a few at the top.

Harriet and Jo with the Pink BusYesterday I had the pleasure of welcoming Harriet Harman to Cardiff Central. Harriet was visiting as part of the 'pink bus' Woman to Woman tour. The bus, and senior women in Labour's shadow cabinet, are travelling the country meeting women across Britain and finding out what matters to them.

If you want an example of who this Government stands up for, look no further than the events of the past two weeks.

The contrast between two of the most recent issues in the news; tax avoidance and policies affecting young people, demonstrates that the Tories and the Lib Dems only stand up for the privileged few.

lilian3.jpgI campaign for Jo because I feel that I have a responsibility to do all I can to create a fairer society, one that is built on a level playing field and in which where you started in life has no reflection on where you finish.

The Labour party is the only party which shares my values. Campaigning is my way of doing what I can to create that society.

Stephen Twigg and Jo StevensTo mark 100 days until the General Election, I was joined in Cardiff Central by Stephen Twigg MP. We knocked doors in Cathays to spread the message about why it's important to register and vote, particularly in closely contested seats like Cardiff Central. We were joined by local campaigners and Labour students, who shared some of their own stories with Stephen throughout the day.
